The Romana's Pilates classical instructor training at Atwill is led by Monica Wilson — great-niece of Romana Kryzanowska, direct student of Romana in New York, and a Romana's Pilates Teacher Trainer since 2004. There are very few people in the world who can trace their teaching lineage this directly to Joseph Pilates. Monica is one of them.

About the program

The Romana's Pilates certification is a 600+ hour program completed over approximately one year — the most rigorous and prestigious classical Pilates certification in the world, and the one all Atwill instructors have completed.

The training is divided into three stages: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Students must demonstrate mastery at each level before progressing. Seminars are taught by leading Romana instructors from around the world. The program combines hands-on instruction, observation hours, practice teaching, and seminars. To qualify for entry, students must pass an assessment demonstrating intermediate-level proficiency on all key pieces of Gratz Pilates apparatus.

Who it's for

This training is for serious students of movement: those who want to teach the original method at the highest level, and those who are already teaching but know there is more depth to find. If you hold another classical Pilates certification, a bridge program option may be available.

Romana classical instructors are among the most sought-after in the field. The depth of the training translates directly into client retention and a teaching practice that lasts.

The training begins with an assessment. If you're interested in pursuing the Romana's Pilates certification at Atwill, the first step is reaching out to schedule yours. Our training program happens once a year and commences in January. It is recommended to start preparing for entry into the program 6-12 months in advance depending on your Pilates proficiency.
